Mwangaza Art School

Welcome to Mwangaza Art School! Karibu! Mwangaza is located in the Nyalenda community in Kisumu, Kenya. It is the only art school in western Kenya. Mwangaza was founded in 1987 and offers a diploma course. Students study art for three years and learn various art forms including visual art, performance art, dance, and music. 
Mwangaza is part of the education programme of the Kisumu Urban Apostolate Programme (KUAP). For more information about KUAP, please visit their website:

Objectives of Mwangaza:
  • To develop artistic talents through provision of skills in visual and performing arts for a better future
  • To promote competitiveness and marketability of art work to create self-employment opportunities
  • To promote cultural values through art exchange
  • To reduce youth idleness and drug abuse
  • To increase access to education through networking with other art institutions and artists

Productive Kisumu local community youth with developed artistic talents and skills

Mission:


The Art School seeks to develop artistic talents of youth from the less fortunate within the local Kisumu community by offering affordable training in art skills so that they become dedicated, committed, and self-reliant. The programme promotes exchange and collaboration with relevant agencies.
